The power of the moon and its rituals
Since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the full moon. Many people are. You can see it in stories, poems and visual art pieces around the world. Looking at the moon is like entering a dream where fantastic beings live. It reminds us that we are stardust in this infinite universe. With the passing of the years, I learned to appreciate her not only for her beauty but also for her magical power. Some things I have learned is that during a full moon period is when things bloom, our energy goes outwards, we give birth to ideas, are more social, synchronize our moon cycles with ovulation to widen our possibilities to create, to manifest dreams, or to even conceive if that is what it is desired. The moonlight has also being used to clear the energy of crystals and water. One thing that I value is that this collective fascination, which is in reality pure intuition, has allowed people to connect to the natural ritualistic side of life beyond religions or spiritual paths.

Since last night we have the new moon energy, which maybe it is not as popular as the full moon. During a new moon, I tend to go inwards. This is a good time to set intentions, write a project, reflect about your life and goals, start any kind of relationship, have a haircut if you want it to grow faster, begin something new. The energy of the new moon helps things grow with patience, like a seed that gently finds its way out of the soil to become a marvelous plant. And this seed will keep its roots growing. I met once a healer who held moon circles for women in their lunar days on the New Moon. They went together to an outdoor place around the fire to offer, not just their sacred blood to Mother Earth, but their emotions and intentions to start a new happier cycle. How many wonderful practices happen around the world!
Losar

Today it is also Losar, the Tibetan New Year Day, the most important festivity in the Buddhist tradition. I’ve gravitated to Buddhism for its guiding principles for years because they make sense to me, even though I am not a Buddhist. These past years, I went to the amazing Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Temple in Bloomington, Indiana, for Losar. That temple is very special to me since I got my Reiki trainings there and was always very welcome by the kind monks there. I have not found a similar place in New Jersey yet. If you go to Indiana, don´t miss the opportunity to visit it. You could have a picnic with your family, walk around to enjoy the peaceful environment, listen to the monks who live there, or participate in one of their classes or festivities.

Connecting with the Moon’s energy is powerful. If you are in your menstruating years, set the intention to synchronize your period with the new moon. And see how magic unfolds! Do you want to bring more sacred times to your life? try a simple personal ritual with the moon with some elements like candles, pen and paper, a special object, a crystal, something to offer to Mother Earth, a special food, and music or a chant that comes from your heart. So many possibilities!
Happy Losar to those who celebrate. And happy New Moon!
